I'm writing this after having read all four books in the series, and while I enjoyed them, they really lacked any type of forethought as to what the FUTURE of this entire storyline would entail.First off, let's point out that the authors seem to put this storyline into our modern world setting... yet, right from the start Emery is talking about being an Omega and having been poked and prodded when it was discovered... and how he talked to other Omegas online. However, NOT ONCE did the authors explain HOW or WHY there were human Alphas and Omegas in the world, nor the entire aspect of MALE pregnancy; instead they wrote as if everything was accepted and 'had always been'. Yet, the mere fact that Emery was poked and prodded by some form of government scientists when his being an Omega was discovered, it appears that Omegas and Alphas ARE NOT as common or 'had always been' as the authors casually let on; so there comes a major contradiction from the very start.As for the future that the authors didn't bother to contemplate... first off, it becomes known that Omegas come into heat twice a year and basically if they mate with an Alpha, they pretty much become pregnant EVERY TIME. So let's take our three dragon couples... you figure they have children every 1-1.5 years... so that's pretty much a child per year (not counting twins) per couple. Now dragons are long-lived, by hundreds of years... in 20 years they would have 20 children EACH... so that's 60 kids in 20 years (not counting twins)!! Now 100 years, that's 300 dragon children!!! Now if the children eventually start breeding within their family (since none of the couples are related), you're talking THOUSANDS of dragon children in a very short period of time!! Do you all see where I'm going with this?!? Apparently based on the reviews I've read, nobody else has contemplated this. The authors could have at least put in some sort of natural cooling off period, or some other means of population control. But according to how the authors wrote, if an Omega is in heat, the Alpha CANNOT not have sex with them and as pregnancy occurs EVERY TIME (how could it not considering how many times they have sex in a short period of time), this is the only conclusion; massive overpopulation in a very short period of time. Perhaps the villain of the story didn't have it so wrong... if this story was indeed true, dragons would be replacing humans in the very near future. I absolutely love this series. The dragons are awesome and the way this series is written is wonderful. The heartsong between the dragons is definitely a new way to describe a fated mate and I felt that it was well done. Being the first book in the series I was glad that a lot of the underlying story was told without losing the story between Cory and Emory. At first I wasn't sure I would enjoy it but I'm so glad I stuck through it because I loved this story. The relationship between the two MCs was very sweet. Sometimes in a series you feel like you are reading the same story over and over but with a different set of MCs but this series didn't make me feel like that because the underlying story was carried from book to book. I hope these two authors co-write again because they do very well with their story telling.Colin Darcy's narration is spot on, the voices are all very distinct throughout the series. In each book I knew exactly who was talking at all times because he carried the voices throughout the entire thing.
